Congressman Hurd to use A&M-SA as center of operations

U.S. Representative Will Hurd announced last week that his Southside district office will soon be opening in the Patriots' Casa. The Congressman took an extended tour of the University in early February and expressed a keen interest in A&M-SA's cybersecurity programs and efforts to improve economic development throughout South Texas. With his background in national security working for the Central Intelligence Agency, Congressman Hurd has a practical knowledge of the country's national and cybersecurity policies and sees great opportunity for San Antonio to make cybersecurity a more prominent part of the city's economy.

From his soon-to-open office at A&M-SA, Hurd plans to work closely with A&M-San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio on building public-private partnerships to streamline students into companies like Rackspace and the 24th and 25th Air Force. First Jaguar Day of the year a huge success!

On Saturday, February 7, A&M-SA held its first Jaguar Day of the academic year. Jaguar Day is an event hosted by the Office of Admissions for prospective students and their families to visit the A&M-SA campus and gain useful information by participating in beneficial presentations targeted toward assisting students through the transfer process. Since February is Financial Aid Awareness Month, this Jaguar Day was focused on helping students learn about the financial aid opportunities available at A&M-SA and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Over 70 prospective students and their families participated in February's Jaguar Day, attending the four informational presentations offered on financial aid, the admissions process, application assistance, and a student panel that shared their experiences as a Jaguar. The next Jaguar Day, "Automatic Decision Day," will be held in late April, 2015.

Prospective students listen carefully for financial aid and admissions advice.
